Every once in a while California gets its shit together and does something that puts the rest of the country to shame. Like this weekend, although other than that there is probably no basis of truth to the statement I just made. Anyhoo,

Part Time Punks

, that minimal-/no-/etc.-wave party where you'll find LA's cache of people who would never berate you about your awful taste in totally inauthentic Mexican food because

who cares shut up

, is throwing a festival of live music from bands who've either never stepped foot on Californian soil or haven't in decades and might not ever again, and then plus others you know and love. I'm talking The Raincoats, Section 25, Medium Medium, the Jazz Butcher, Kid Congo Powers, Savage Republic, Viv Albertine, Abe Vigoda, Rainbow Arabia, Blessure Grave, Weave, and a shitload more…. And Gang of Four are DJing. Sounds too amazing to be LA, right? Well it gets better: there's even a poolside party with all these bands the day before. Stab me in the heart with Karen Black's scepter, why don't you?
