Kern's Girl Of The Week - Amy

OK, this is Amy. I don’t think she’ll care if we use her name. This is, I guess… 1993 or 1994, something like that.

Every week from now until he gets sick of doing it, Richard Kern will invite us to his L.E.S. apartment and we’ll go through a huge box of archival photographs from his long and checkered career. This is the second installment of his new series, cleverly called “Kern’s Girl of the Week.”

OK, this is Amy. I don’t think she’ll care if we use her name. This is, I guess… 1993 or 1994, something like that. A friend of mine introduced me to her when she was 19 years old. He said, “You know, she’s a model, she might want to work on your stuff.”

She was like a hipster girl, into alternative stuff. Like I think she knew my old films. Again we have the gloves and the boots.

She was great, aside from the fact that she was really good-looking. She was a regular model and she was doing this on the side just for fun ‘cause she wasn’t making any money as a model. She introduced me to maybe five or six other models like her who wanted to do something goofy, and they turned out to be a lot of the girls who are in the book New York Girls. The best thing about her now is she owns KCDC Skate Shop over in Williamsburg, this really popular skateboard shop. I think she still models, but she’s heavily into skater culture.

VICE: How old is she now?

I guess she’s maybe 30-something, in her early 30s. She was a good model, I got so much good stuff from her.
