NEW YORK - STINKBOX FULL OF TALENT

MoCCA, which stands for Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art, hosts a yearly convention where people show up and sell comics and original arts-and-crafty bologna. Since its inception, MoCCA has been hosted at the beautiful air-conditioned Puck building. But not this year. The bigwigs at MoCCA decided to shove the festival over to the giant sweltering 69th Brigade Armory on Lexington. It's kind of like a Call of Duty: World At War multiplayer level mixed with a sweat lodge. (Coincidentally, my COD: WAW Friend Code is: 000183662167.) So everyone is in this enormous room with these huge lights above that shine down like a spaceship is taking off and you are standing beneath.

Connor Willumsen, a new guy in the line of guys who are good at linear drawings, was there. Some woman asked him to draw however he felt and this is what came out.

This costumed character from Kaiju Big Battel was running around scaring the shit out of people. I touched his head and he didn't like it and hit me in the head in retaliation. His name is Tucor.

I was sitting next to my redhead friend Valissa and someone came up and presented these comics, saying that she looked like the woman on the cover on the left or something.

Look at those thick torsos, boneless shoulders, and crazy bread legs. It reminds me of the drawings I did as a nine-year-old, where I used Playboy as reference material and then drew Vampirella's costume on top in the hopes of having my envelope art published in Wizard Magazine. Eventually my mom caught me and had a talk with me about how these things objectify women. Maybe if this guy's mom took away his Playboys he would learn to draw.

This was Valissa's response to being compared to Jungle Homunculus Bitch.

I met Bob Camp, who was the creative director for The Ren & Stimpy Show after John K. got fired. He was such a sweet guy that he got down on his knees to draw Ren and Stimpy for me! This guy worked on Thundercats, the Real Ghostbusters, and Silverhawks too. He's got no attitude at all about his years of experience in affecting kids with cartoons. What a mensch!

This girl is like an awesome female Archie Andrews.

The hecate are comic book aficionados.

Wandering around the premises I saw some funny stuff.

…like these regimental ties!

And this painting…

…and this beautiful door!

The weirdest part of the convention was definitely the men's room. You enter and the paper towels are on a card table in the middle of the room. There's a weird little skirt around the sinks. "69" is spelled out in tile on the wall and the stalls have wee doors that look like they belong on a house for little people.

I was chatting with Alvin from Buenaventura and he pulled out this sketchbook and asked me to do a drawing. I was blown away by the other people in this thing.

R. Crumb drew this.

Joost Swarte drew this.

Matt Furie drew this.

Charles Burns did his take on Tintin and then Art Spiegelman did a drawing on the other side, which is visible on this side and looks like musculature under the skin.

Art Spiegelman drew this.

Gary panter drew this.

I drew this.

Then everybody left.
