LONDON - JUST CALL YOUR BAND WHAT YOU ARE

People normally use words like "harem" and "coven" to describe groups of women. "Gaggle" sounds a lot better though. There are 22 members of Gaggle, London's only sci-fi riot choir, but they all bend to the will of their head chorister, Coughlin, who used to be in 586 and apparently once got sued by The Slits. Usually enormous bands like I'm From Barcelona and The Polyphonic Spree are awful groups for families at festivals or foreign students who haven't grasped cynicism yet, but this gang of 22 aren't that kind of happy-go-lucky cult. Click the button thingy below to hear this bunch of priestesses.

Vice: Hi. How did Gaggle form?
Coughlin: Organically. I had an idea and now it's spreading like a really nice virus.

Where did all the members come from?
Old friends, ex-lovers, coincidences, lesbian club nights, and at the drinking den the George Tavern.

Is there a philosophy behind Gaggle?
Many. Gaggle are smart women with big plans. We want to be happy.

Are you a real band who're gonna tour and release records?
Yes. The plan has always been to release some records and do amazing gigs. Where we go from there may include politics, art, commercial business, and cult-style teachings.

Do you all have cute characteristics like the Spice Girls? Space Gaggle, Occult Gaggle, Noisy Gaggle, etc.?
We all have our Gaggle names for legal reasons. And some of us can be cute when we're not being scary.

Interesting. Can you remember the names of everyone in your band?
Yes. Schwa, Honey, Bette, MissMiss, Wunderla, Launette, Alibi, D, McClean, Luddite, Polydorou, Culwick, Gusset, Dana, Strick, Kiki, Namsoo, Kumari, Lipstick, Peachy Bitch, Kumari, and me, Coughlin.

Who are Gaggle's favourite bands?
If I dont mention Courtney Love, Schwa and Honey will sit on my face. But we don't subscribe to one taste. Leave Spotify in the room and you could come back to Bach or Micachu.

Can I join?
No. But we have plans for the men. Don't panic. As for women, at the moment we have a waiting list. Again, we have big plans to deal with that too.
