Like a lot of young aggro males, I avoided dance music for a long time in favor of angry music. Recently, I have come to understand the not-so-revelatory fact that music designed to make people want to run around in a mosh pit and punch stuff probably just makes me angrier. Shamelessly poppy dance music like Candide balances it out nicely. Candide is a Berlin/Brooklyn duo, who use the miraculous gift of the internet to transport digital song snippits back and forth to each other and finish them collaboratively. They're self-releasing a new album on May 19—a follow-up to their previous EP with Zappruder Records. This track, "Detract," is soulful and consistent and nothing like that other intense stuff. We all need balance.Preorder Candide's new record here.
