Eric Weddle's Would-Be Interception Was Nasty

A questionable penalty negated what would have been an incredible one-handed interception in the end zone.

Eric Weddle made a great one-handed interception off Peyton Manning in the end zone, but it was called back for holding on Marcus Gilchrist. Weddle reached back across his body as his momentum carried him away from the flight of the ball and snagged it out of mid-air. He returned it to the 18-yard line, but it was all for naught because the referees called Gilchrist for holding the intended receiver, Wes Welker, who was behind the play. It was, let's call it an iffy flag that wiped out a potentially game-changing play for the Chargers.

The Broncos punched it in on the next play with a one-yard run from Juwan Thompson to take a 35-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. San Diego then drove 80 yards in four minutes and made it 35-21 with Antonio Gate's second touchdown of the night, which makes the penalty on the interception an even bigger kick in the nuts.
