Protean shapes and surfaces evolve as the viewer examines and moves around Kate Matthews three-dimensional paintings. The geometry and repetition of her pieces, juxtaposed with their shifting nature and the way they reimagine space, mix sculpture and architecture, referencing modernist abstraction while pushing it to new limits. Fragmented shapes add a sense of unpredictability and strangeness to Matthews’ works, which are currently on display at Miranda Guo Gallery in New York City and will remain there until August 1st.
