Roska Returns with the Laid-Back Bass

The UK tastemaker's 'Wave' EP is a must-listen for those looking upwards (if you know what we mean).

Roska's not an easy man to pin down. The London-based producer and DJ has been melding the outer-regions of house and UK bass since he appeared on the scene in 2007. Since then, he's become a tastemaker extraordinaire with a weekly Rinse.FM show and his label, Roska Kicks and Snares.

His forthcoming Wave EP includes four originals that present a wholly unique and varied perspective on tunage. Tracks like "Pez Dispenser" and "Wave" bring together the tones of UK bass, hard hitting kicks and snares that sit underneath more minimalist house synths and atmospherics – and even some techno on the latter tune. "This is me being influenced by my old sounds I used to work with," he tells THUMP, "but with a new edge to it. I've brought out the old drum kits and just had fun with it all track to track."

And check out "Higher," the lead track from the release. The track maintains the ability to at once be chilled-out and heavy. "Higher was a spin off from our previous track 'Movin'," says Roska. "It's just about travelling and going places. Keeping the whole track dark and bassy too."

It features Roska's frequent collaborator and MC, Jamie George. The bromance is strong between these two. Roska explains: Jamie is one of my best friends. We kinda know what to expect from each other musically so we push each other when we make tunes."
