Hands Up if You Want Some Icy Techno from Sweden

Red Royalty's "Spirit" is a moody tune for moody times.

Just in time for techno season (we're looking at you, winter winds), Swedish newcomer Red Royalty (AKA Jacob Haage) makes a strong debut with his Spirit EP, out December 1 on his Second Voyage label. The first cut builds as icy synths squeak through the air while a rubbery groove rolls along to the finish. Describing the experience of listening to the tune, Haage says it feels like walking along a neverending wall, wondering what's on the other side. As for what drove him to start making techno sluggers, the Stockhold-based producer simply says, "There are times when you feel that the light is too far away. Times when you feel it's hard to ignore the fact that your surroundings are killing you." We can't think of any better reason to lose yourself on the dancefloor.
