We know what awesome audiovisual experimenters Black Dice are, that’s why we got the noise rock group to collaborate with Animal Collective for their comeback Coachella Music Festival performance. So we’re not surprised to see other bands calling on these mad scientists of lo-fi video art to create seizure-inducing visual accompaniments for their music.Their latest video for Wooden Shijps is the perfect complement to the hard-rocking sound of “Lazy Bones.” Sit back and strap in for a rapid-fire journey of jumbled images, acid colors, iconic cartoon characters, retro advertisements and photos washed over with glitch effects—all bombarding the screen in a quickfire, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it fashion. The effect is reminiscent of early MTV commercials from the 80s with its mix of comic strip-like, Lichtenstein-inspired cut outs—it then climaxes in an explosion of psychedelia into a hypnotic, head-spinning, strobe-y few minutes. The whole thing is strangely refreshing, if a little disorienting.
