While performing at and attending this year’s Bruise Cruise Festival, billed as a “3 Day Tropical Rock’n’Roll Vacation” held on a cruise from Miami, FL to Nassau, Bahamas, The Black Lips ingeniously decided to make a video for their new single “Go Out And Get It.” Because of the party setting, the video has a totally free-spirited ‘spring break’ vibe, capturing the band on walks along the beach, goofing off, and dancing with bikini-clad hipster chicks… in all their sunburnt glory. The best part is you feel like you’re actually along for the ride—none of the antics seem staged, and there are no orchestrated costume changes or multiple retakes. Indie rockers and Black Lips cohorts, Vivian Girls, also make an appearance rocking out on their guitars, before one of their instruments gets thrown into the ocean by those rambunctious Lips boys.Shot by VBS.tv, the video captures a fun-loving, flippant attitude that is such a welcome breath of fresh air amongst all the hyper-produced videos of today. When you’re an artist that takes yourself way too seriously, you can sometimes forget that having fun is what playing music all about in the first place. The Black Lips sixth studio album, Arabia Mountain, is out in June 2011 on VICE Records.
