Our pal Mike Rugnetta at PBS’ new Idea Channel sent along this video a couple days ago, wherein it is argued that the present-day rush of pop culture surrealism and wanton non sequitur traces to said video game. It’s titled “Super Mario Brothers Is The World’s Greatest Piece Of Surrealist Art.” It’s more a tongue-and-cheek way of getting us to think about video games in an artistic context, but it’s a fun idea nonetheless. I’d suggest heatedly arguing about it below, and also that it doesn’t account for ’70s movie comedy.Reach this writer at michaelb@motherboard.tv.
