Don’t Breathe, Even Air Is Killing Us Now

More than 16,000 Brits are dying each year from cancer and strokes caused by air pollution, health bosses warn.

Health news is basically just a fun cycle of information about what's going to kill you next. You can't eat this, you can't sit around on your arse, you can't be stressed – there is nothing you can do that won't hurt you. And now you can't even breathe without shortening your lifespan. So stop it.

Great news: more than 16,000 Brits a year are dying from air pollution. New figures from the World Health Organisation (WHO) show that 16,355 people have died as a result of air pollutants from vehicles, industries and household fuel. The new figures include deaths from conditions like lung cancer and strokes.

If you really want to look into these grim stats, it's estimated that more than 7,300 Brits died from coronary heart disease linked to outdoor air pollution during 2012. In the same year, almost 5,000 died from lung cancer and 3,700 died from strokes linked to – you guessed it – being outdoors and breathing in that sweet, sweet air.

You might think you're safe because you live in the middle of Surrey, but think again. The WHO says that 92 percent of the world's population live in places where air quality levels exceed their recommended pollution limits. In 2012, across the world, one out of every nine deaths was the result of air pollution-related conditions.

So there you have it. Go and live inside an air purifier if you want to survive.
