THE GREEKS ARE STILL FUCKED

The Greeks are still pretty pissed by all the tax hikes and wage cuts and being used as an example of, "what Britain will be like if Clegg/Cameron/Brown gets in." Our office over there were given some more photographs of yesterday's anarchy by a collection of Greek photographers called the Redeye Connection. Apparently an emergency law has just been introduced so that the police can take your cameras and delete your images, making being a photographer in Athens really fucking hard.

Here are some riot police, they were slowly marching down Stadiou Street, clearing the path with tear gas.

Facing the lines of riot cops were thousands of ordinary Greeks.

This is directly opposite the bank that burned down. They're smashing the front of a big book shop and a small shoe shop. They were very young looking and got really anxious when I pulled my camera out. They seemed to lack sense, direction or control; they were throwing plant pots at other plant pots. As the rest of the protest passed, people were telling them to stop, but the kids just told them to fuck off. Eventually, the owner of the book shop came out and spoke to them, then they covered one of his employees in petrol and threatened to set him on fire. I'm pretty sure these were the guys who attacked the bank.

This is the Marfin Bank that was burnt down by protesters. The fire killed three bank workers, including one woman who was four months pregnant.

These are some of the bank workers who were rescued by firemen.

As the crackdown on protesters started so did the crackdown on photographers and journalists, with many having cameras smashed or having images deleted, some were even arrested.

As the day wore on the police got increasingly frustrated with anyone who wasn't playing by their rules, giving them a good kicking and throwing them into a riot van.
