Trying to watch pretty old art films like Faust or Ran on a computer kind of defeats the point, but when the original source material is something already shitty-looking like a third-generation cassette copy of concert footage shot on one of those early 80s camcorders with the separate tape deck that hung off your shoulder, it's a pretty solid option. Case in point, check out the music section at this site. You have to wade through some genuinely impressive crap to get at the good stuff (three Static-X videos and counting), but it's a small price to pay for a heaping mound of VHS gems like Another State of Mind and that Throbbing Gristle movie from right before they broke up and full live shows by Black Flag, GBH, Nick Cave (at either end of the old-fart spectrum), and Samhain. They've also whole sections of fancies, but as said, you'd really be better off netflixing those.
