NEEDLEWATCH - RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM OUR OFFICE

Gross, there's a syringe in the gutter across the street from our office right now, behind a white SUV, a half a foot next to a smooshed banana peel. It's kind of hard to believe there's still users around here, though the board-up facade for the latest luxurious condominium monstrosity did just get ripped up, probably exposing a nest of homeless shamblers without a care in the world. Perhaps this was the last nostalgic fix before their long trek to the barbed-wire villa surrounding Vinegar Hill. The innocent among us here are theorizing that it came from a diabetic and that they injected themselves in the car and then hucked it out the window. Right. Well, you know, if they had those red biohazard boxes for used sharps in public places like they do all over the Midwest (check your next smalltown gas station bathroom for further information) and San Francisco, we wouldn't be faced with conundrums like this.
