Facebook 'Music Stories' Will Put Apple Music and Spotify into the News Feed

It will stream 30-second clips of songs you want to share with your friends.

Remember when Spotify linked to your Facebook and revealed to all your friends that you'd listened to Taylor Swift for several hours straight? Now Facebook is implementing a new feature called "Music Stories," where you can opt to share a track from either Apple Music or Spotify and your friends will be able to listen to a 30 second preview.

Music Stories will take the form of a new post format, the same as sharing a photo or video. And if your friend really digs what you posted, they can either purchase or save the track for themselves (depending on whether it's been shared from Apple Music or Spotify). This functionality is not altogether too different than Twitter's now-dead iPhone app called Twitter Music, which let users tweet Spotify, Rdio, or iTunes songs.

The move could make it easier for for artists to share previews of their latest work. And if Facebook supported Bandcamp, a platform that music fans can use to support their favorite artists, that would be a bonus for smaller, unsigned acts. Hint hint.

This announcement comes one day after Facebook released its latest financial results, with the company now worth a staggering $305 billion, putting it ahead of industrial mainstay General Electric.
