Mark Brunell Is Extremely Passionate About Balls

Longtime NFL quarterback has both thoughts and feelings on the NFL's balls-related issues. Not great thoughts, but very great feelings.

Of all the ridiculous things about the ongoing idiocy of L'affaire Deflatriots, perhaps the most glaring and amusing is the fact that everyone talking about it has to keep saying the word "balls" in extremely serious tones. They shake their big serious sports-heads and say "balls" with a purpose usually found only in marriage proposals or Papa John's commercials; they say "balls" in exasperated tones. They say "balls" and they keep on saying it.

Which, you know: it's not like this is any sillier than talking about the Pro Bowl. But as this has dragged on in the familiar NFL way, it's been hard not to hope that one of these balls-clucking people will stop, as if awakening from a dream, and say, "are we seriously going to keep saying 'balls' this much, in this particular context?"

Perhaps it will be longtime NFL quarterback and ESPN commentator Mark Brunell who breaks the spell. Mark?

Or not. Anyway, the Super Bowl is Sunday, February 1.
