Kickstarter is the go-to place if you want to crowd finance your project, enabling creative ideas to reach actualization without the need for letting your ideas fester in art grant purgatory, bowing to corporate restraints or maxing out credit cards. Providing, of course, you are able to reach your donation goal. And so in this project currently seeking funding, a pair of musicians—DJ Rupture (Jace Clayton) and Maga Bo—hope to travel to Morocco to bring digital media education to the masses while out there performing, uniting the disparate tasks of DJ and NGO.In their project called Beyond Digital they will set up a series of musical collaborations and free workshops to teach people how to use “digital production tools and the global media system.” In addition to using this platform to explain these new media disciplines to children and musicians who may not have access to them, they’ll also be looking at how musical methods used in the West have been appropriated by Moroccan artists. One example they give is the use of the omnipresent Auto-Tune in Moroccan Berber folk music. They’ll documenting their new media charity work using HD video, continuing to spread the knowledge online. They have a grant to fund the 4 week project which takes place in June, but they need to raise $5000 for a recce mission prior to this, so if you’re feeling charitable you can donate here.
