There's something about hand-drawn, jumpy animation with lots of missing frames that still gets to us, even though the days of Steamboat Willieare more of a cultural reference point than anything we consumed as kids ourselves. Even so, a new video game by Studio MDHR called Cuphead brings classic cartoons to the video game world, as the newly-announced game looks exactly like an animated film from yesteryear.

Using actual cells, ink and a soundtrack comprised of live jazz recordings (gasp!), Cuphead is the ideal game for retro fiends. The plot follows a classic arcade "run-and-gun shooter," following the titular character and buddy Mugman as they fight bosses that look like they're straight out of Popeye.Though Cupman's initial debut will be on Steam and Xbox One, MDHR hopes to eventually release the game on the 1986 Sega Master System, including a box, cartridge and even a manual. The game has already been nominated for the International Games Festival, but when it is released in the States, this may be your best bet in convincing your grandparents that gaming is an artform that doesn't rot your brain.
