Beach House's 'Kimmel' Performance of "Drunk In LA" Is a Real Trip

The duo stopped by 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' to perform the '7' track, and brought an industrial smoke machine and some vaguely sinister visuals.

Beach House released their seventh album 7 last Friday. It continues their reign as the royal family of contemporary dream-pop, which, since their emergence in the mid-2000s, has become a pretty crowded field. Performing last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the duo showed why they're still the greatest. Armed with their atmosphere-altering sound, some actually quite unsettling visuals, and a bigger smoke machine than Stars in Their Eyes, they transformed the studio into their own personal plain – a place where there is only Beach House.

They played 7 track "Drunk In LA" which sounds great in a live setting: Victoria Legrand's vocals are as haunting as ever, and the band have really mastered the art of marrying the look of their performance with the mood it creates. Bathed in cleansing blue light, "Drunk In LA" takes on the form of a gentle sonic rebirth, which is quite a grand claim – but then Beach House, in the way that their music can come to totally define whatever environment it's played in, are quite a grand band. Watch the performance above, and feel new.
