For some people in the world, yesterday was Mother’s Day, and what better day than that to release a heart-wrenching audio-visual meditation on the miracle of parenthood? That is what Lykke Li has done, blessedly, in the form of a new video for her equally new track “utopia,” which you can see above.
Taken from her upcoming record so sad, so sexy (out 8 June and announced last month) “utopia” is a quietly sunkissed song with a simple hook (“We could be / utopia, utopia”), and it’s totally sold by Li’s distinctive, hazy pop style. The video, directed by Clara Cullen, is a compilation of videos of Li as a child, and of her in the present with her young son. The whole thing has a rosy, nostalgic air, and shows some moments of unabashed affection between mothers and children. It’s really lovely.

The video’s YouTube listing is accompanied by a comment from Li which says “Utopia is all my mother ever wanted for me and all I ever want for him.” I’M NOT CRYING YOU ARE CRYING.
