It’s “Time 2 Bump” with the Boys From RYME

We first introduced you to RYME, the brainchild of Toronto fixtures Rynecologist and Meech, in July of last year after their debut EP was released on Boysnoize Records. As you may remember, both have been active members of Toronto’s electronic scene for almost ten years, forging their own path through the numerous waves and trends that have passed through this town without losing their unique flair. After years of sharing a mutual love of Chicago house, Detroit techno, and a dash of Baltimore club, the pair decided to join forces fully.

Since we last talked to the duo, they have been hard at work producing a serious body of work and drumming up significant local and international support. They are constantly putting out new music and engaging with their ever-growing network of fans.

“We push out tracks like donuts on a conveyor belt,” says Rynecologist. “We consistently tackle a track or remix within a few hours.”

While many artists would shy away from an analogy that reminds most people of factory production quality, RYME have managed to nail a production aesthetic that means it’s not an issue of quantity over quality.

“Our production aesthetic has always been to keep things simple and clean. I feel the only thing that has changed since we started is our efficiency working together,” explains Meech.

By keeping it stripped back and unfussy, the pair creates a sound that lets them produce quickly and effectively–they get the crowd moving and DJs asking for more. They even have Carl Cox hooked. Cox regularly plays out RYME’s release “N’Noww”, which came out as part of their debut EP on BNR.

Now they’re back with a brand new original release called “Time 2 Bump”, which will be part of their second BNR TRAX EP, to be released on March 23. The EP will also feature remixes by Don Rimini, Sinden, and Cosella.

“Our goal was to produce a track where the vocals played an iconic role. Something the crowd could chant to and eventually decipher what the lyrics ‘Time 2 Bump’ means. They might think it means “Is it time to dance?” Maybe, “Is it time to have a one night stand with my Tinder date?” Possibly, “Is it time to do bumps of something in the bathroom stall and create a cue of angry people?” Sure. Or maybe it’s just time to dance,” says Rynecologist.

The track is hypnotizing in its simplicity and proves that the pair is just getting better with age.

“We wanted to make the most stripped down, DJ friendly track we could possibly do. I remember laughing at how simple ‘Time 2 Bump’ is, which really gives it its charm,” says Meech.

Now RYME is focused on fostering their fan base both locally and globally, connecting with promoters and supporters who are in it for the love of the music. Although they would definitely love more shows in warmer climates (what Canadian wouldn’t), they are keen to partner with promoters and venues who appreciate their stylistic choices rather than the number of their SoundCloud followers.

“It doesn’t matter about the venue or money. If the promoter is knowledgeable with our music and DJ sets, then the crowd knows what to expect from us musically. We’re good to go!”

RYME’s second EP will be released on ‘BNR TRAX‘ on March 23.
