Zayn Malik was always the best vocalist that One Direction had to offer—there was never any question about that. When he left the group to embark on a solo career, most of us expected that he'd be making the most of that sweet, sweet falsetto, and hoped for an album made up of the sort of R&B slow jamz that would make Usher blush. This is… not what we got (though he's shown he can do it) in Mind of Mine, his debut. His second album, however, free of early career teething problems, might go a little better.
Today Zayn (officially, ZAYN) has released the debut single from that as yet untitled second effort, "Dusk Till Dawn." The track features Sia, who co-wrote the track alongside him, provides another vocal dimension to the track, and it's pretty and slow-building, showing off his ridiculous range, which actually only seems to have expanded. The accompanying music video is extremely high-stakes, featuring Zayn as some sort of presumable criminal mastermind and Girls' Jemima Kirke as his accomplice. There's a silly part in the middle where a policeman tells Criminal Zayn that he's onto him and Criminal Zayn's all "YOU DON'T KNOW ME," but other than that it's kind of cool and atmospheric and works with the song nicely.
Watch it above and get honked up on espionage.
