Frankly, Apple Music's Up Next series has scored a hell of a home-run by grabbing Toronto gospel-rock-soul rising star Daniel Caesar. Not only is his rich music a great fit for their luxuriously shot live vids, but there haven't been too many glimpses into Caesar's process, given his scarce interviews. He admits as much to Beats 1's Ebro Darden, saying "I'm not a good communicator. Something like this? This is a lot for me."
Caesar touches on his church-going past, saying that to his family, "Anything that isn't [glorifying God] is glorifying Satan." He also elaborates on the meaning behind his upcoming album Freudian, describing it as "an arc, from the inception to the death of the most intense relationship of my life." "Humans are complex," he adds, "I don't think identity's a real thing because I'm not the same guy I was two years ago."
