After rounding out the awards circuit with two Golden Globes, two SAG awards, and 13 Emmy nominations, Netflix's highly expensive drama The Crown will return in December, throwing viewers right back into the inner workings of the British royal family. In the new teaser for the second season, all the rich and powerful people continue to grapple with their rich and powerful problems. Queen Elizabeth II, played by Claire Foy, seems to have gotten the whole ruling thing down but is still wrestling with growing tension in her personal life.Seemingly miffed at his wife's royal duties, Prince Philip (Matt Smith) has gone off galavanting across the globe, ending up on a tropical island while his wife deals with various national scandals at home. Her sister, Princess Margaret (Vanessa Kirby), is still making headlines, this time with a new suitor, throwing even more Elizabeth's way to clean up.The second season, which follows Elizabeth's reign into the early 1960s, will also feature a visit from America's royal family, with Michael C. Hall and Jodi Balfour playing JFK and Jackie. Their visit will likely force Elizabeth to confront her traditional ideals of what leadership looks like post-WWII."The world's changing faster than anyone can catch up with. There is no letup," Foy told Entertainment Weekly of her role. "[Elizabeth] just keeps having to go from one crisis to another to another, and at some point, it's about five crises at the same time and you have no idea how she manages to get up in the morning."Check out the trailer above and catch the new season of The Crown on Netflix December 8.
