On Wednesday, the Large Hadron Collider, a particle accelerator capable of firing beams of protons travelling up to 99.999999 per cent of the speed
of light into each other
to recreate the conditions that occurred during the first trillionth of
a second after the Big Bang, will be switched on by scientists from the European particle physics lab near Geneva. This machine, which cost £4.4 billion to build, will, in theory, allow
scientists to shed some light on the fundamentals of the universe. It is hoped the elusive Higgs boson will be discovered, as well as evidence for why nature prefers matter over anti-matter.The problem is, some people believe that this atom-smashing collision will create a mini black hole that will grow exponentially, consuming the Earth and the rest of the solar system in as little as a few hours. The scientists (one of whom is the keyboardist from D:Ream, comically) have received death threats from terrified people who think that the experiments at the LHC will mark the end of the world, and a German scientist has even launched an EU court lawsuit against them.Anyway, to make us forget all about this possible apocalypse, these cunning boffins have enlisted the help of hot Philly rapper babe Amanda Blank to drop some dope rhymes about the particle accelerator and show us how off the chain the work the scientists are doing will be. Aight?Watch the video below.
