LONDON - RED STRIPE MUSIC AWARD

Competitions are generally for competitive dynamos like Jonathan Edwards or Graham Gooch, not for bands, because they're lazy. Bands normally spend their time strolling along Denmark Street at lunch time, getting their jammy hands all over Radiohead songbooks. Still, rules are meant to be etc.

If you are in a band and are willing to sacrifice your creative directive for an aggressive one, if you’re ready to charge like the Light Brigade into the breach, then Red Stripe are willing to reward your aggression with a nudge towards the vast popularity you’ve always thought your shitty bedroom project demanded.

The Jamaican Booze People are offering bands the chance to play at a bunch of three summer festivals, including Brighton’s Great Escape Festival which is basically an amazing three day piss-up with all the best bands in the country which leaves industry types in such a state they sign every band they can make out through their gack-dementia. Which makes it an important place for bands to be.

The Red Stripe Music Award all starts in January and its going to be going all over Britain. All genres are welcomed so you don’t have to sound like Kings of Leon to win. The only thing is you have to be over 18. And you have to play your own songs, so don’t turn up and do ‚ÄòRape Me’.

Bands can enter via www.redstripe.net where regular updates on the regional gigs, shortlists, finalists and special promotions will be made over the next 6 months. Fill in your details now and check out what last year’s winner has been up to.
