A Low HighFor some reason I'm convinced that this album was recorded in a bedroom, Mostly because it's credited to one guy plus a bunch of other guys. Which means this was probably recorded at the same desk (maybe at the same time) as skyping of Moms, Three-times-Weekly thoughtless dinners consisting of potatoes and other things, touching of parts whilst downloading pictures of celebrity nip-slips, and piracy. But A.I.R. manage to use this environment and their experience gained working on various film and television projects to their advantage to make an album sitting comfortably between Air (The other Air) and Secret Chiefs 3. Use this album in your short film about Rainy Days in Werribee, or during a sex scene for a TV show about Tasmanian Coast Guards.

French Kiss / SonyI think perhaps this album may be a victim of being so current that it was already yesterday's news when they first hit the Record button on their pirated version of Ableton. That said, it's still a pretty gigantically joyous explosion of thundercat chipmunk funk and a damn fun time for the most part. If you put aside your hate for electro.
A little too much heartfelt sentiment sours things a touch but considering these guys are still in their early 20s and obviously having a great time, there's no reason to pour water on their party just as the E is wearing off and everyone's getting emotional.

Own RecordsWhen I looked at the cover of Talons new album I thought "Ohhhh, this is gonna sound like a bunch of horns spewing out colourful blobs of music that are secretly and subversively evil but in a really super happy way", but sadly, album covers are there to trick you these days.
Instead I got a bunch of noisy indie tunes that range from boring to pretty decent to sort of interesting and then back to annoying. They're actually pretty good for the genre they're spinning, with some parts of their music that break free from the dirge to show a bit of colour once in a while. But inevitably you're led back into clunky bass and moaning vocals, and the same old tiresome "dark and tormented" kinda schtick that reeks just a little of insincerity.
