Today, Phil Spector is no longer the most dangerous thing in the record industry, as The Daily Mail launches its own record label. They're not the first UK fascists to do so. Sarah Palin may have complained that she couldn't find many musical celebs to come out for the McCain ticket, but over here in Britain the dim right wing are far more proactive when it comes to channeling the cultural flow. Aside from acting as a sponge for super-lame jokes about releasing Foreigner albums, it also feels a bit like the mainstreaming of a trend that began a couple of years ago, when the BNP set up Great White Records, an outfit which 'serves to promote patriotic-nationalist music'.So far, the BNP's flagship has been very blonde young man called Joey Smith, who writes genuinely sub-gash choons across rock, pop and punk. We can recommend the title track of his 'It's Not Just About The Music' album for its disturbing couplet: "It's not just about the music to me/ I just want to see the people free/To help them see through the lies". Even more odd is 'English Girl', in which Joey fantasises about meeting his Aryan princess to the tune of the Beach Boys' 'Kokomo'. Weirdest of all though is his anti-Lily Allen track.Of course, Hitler always adored a knees-up, but even hardened fascists would probably have a hard time goose-stepping to 'West Wind – an album of nationalist songs penned by [BNP Leader] Nick Griffin'. "If you like variety on an album, this is the album for you!" boasts a BNP sanctioned review, unaware of it's own irony. Vanity publishing, eh? As the Daily Mail themselves might say: who will save our children from this filth?Another glance at the BNP boy band anyone? Yeah let's.Love those guys.
