We Saw This: 2:54

We got to talk to 2:54, and then they sang to us.

2:54 is a dreamy, gothy band out of London and they played a show at Knitting Factory over the weekend. In between jawing with John Norris and their set, they sat down with us for a convo.

VICE: So this isn't your first time playing in New York? We thought it was.

2:54: Yeah, before SXSW we played at Mercury Lounge and Glasslands.

New York gets compared to London a lot. Or maybe we're making that up. Are there any similarities between performing here in NY versus there?

No, I mean, they're their own beasts.

So you guys are sisters and you mentioned before that it's no harder or easier performing with a family member. How long have you been playing music together?

Well, for fun, since our teens. And then it just naturally evolved into this.

A lot of people are excited about your music and this is only your first album. Is it surprising to kind of blast out of the gate like this?

We kind of just focus on writing the songs and playing the shows, and all of that other stuff just sort of bounces around outside of that. We're just trying to focus on becoming a good live band. The EP came out in November, and the album came out two weeks ago, so I guess this is all good!

Do you still have day jobs, or has music become full-time now?

Amazingly it has. It's the dream. We're aware.

Well, there you have it. Here's some pictures from their set.

Bonus points for the night: English accents.

Points subtracted for the night: Eventually the English accents went away. Not the accents themselves, but the people who had them.
