Kill the Engine

Something about Weasels

This week I made a little visit to my favorite bookstore in Austin, Domy Books. As far as I know this is the only bookstore in Austin dedicated solely to art, design, and photography. I could be wrong though, so don't quote me on that.

This week I made a little visit to my favorite bookstore in Austin, Domy Books. As far as I know this is the only bookstore in Austin dedicated solely to art, design, and photography. I could be wrong though, so don't quote me on that. If you find yourself in Austin and want to visit Domy, just get on the east side of I-35 (heading east on Cesar Chavez) and keep your eyes on the right side of the road. If you see this mural you went too far. If you keep heading east you can buy hard drugs at the bus stop directly across the street from the Okay Mountain Studios at the corner of Cesar Chavez and Chalmers. Dude's don't even try to hide it, they just sell drugs right there on the street. It's sort of like Amsterdam. Only way more depressing.

I really like how selective Domy is with what it stocks. The place breathes well and isn't jam packed with crap. It seems like everything in the store was carefully chosen and is there for a reason. I also like that the air conditioning makes my butt sweat turn cold. Texas is miserable right now.

This is Russell. He runs the place. And he's very knowledgeable about everything in the store. You get the sense that the store is curated in the same way that you'd put together an art show. Nothing is there by chance.

My favorite zone is the zine zone. Domy is really cool about carrying local kids' zines in the store. No elitist attitudes.

They also have a gallery space where they do regular art programming. My buddy Carlos had a collaborative show that was about to open so I went to check it out and soak in some art vibes.

Carlos Rosales Silva (the guy on the right) is a member of the Okay Mountain Collective and is one of my favorite dudes in my dude collection.

This is a collaborative show with Carlos' good buddy, Dylan Reece. The show is titled "Yin Yang Twins." Here's a link to the press release if you'd like to read more about the intentions behind the show/work.

This is my favorite piece in the show.

Here's what it looks like without my reflection in the glass. Kind of reminds me of an old Benetton ad. In a good way.

Hand-painted checkerboard poles.

Spring break means different things to different people. To me it just conjures up images of Pauly Shore on location in some puke-filled beach town in Florida yelling something about weasels or some dumb shit like that.

Dude, your yang's huge.

He works in mysterious ways.

A phenomenon known as the dick pic.

Download? Of course. Those balls look kind of like a butt to me. Butts are cool too, though. I ain't doggin'. This art show opens two days before you're reading this, so you probably missed the opening. But you've probably been to art openings before, right? So you know what you missed. Girls with intentionally unflattering hairdos and guys with their Urkel costumes on. The work will be on view through September 8th though, so if you find yourself in Austin swing by Domy and check it out. Or don't. It's totally up to you.

This week's movie review (requested by my friend Tim): Hot Dog The Movie

This movie is about what happens when you pick up a hitchhiker, have sex with her, and then let her move into your hotel room. And then you go have sex with another woman in a hot tub and you don't lock the door and the hitchhiker girl totally sees you getting in the bone zone and so she sleeps with a German dude with flawless hair to try and get back at you. There's also some skiing involved. And I think the moral is that when you have sex with a hitchhiker she has to be willing to look past you having sex with another woman, because she's basically homeless without you. Which is kind of sad. The end.
