VICE Sports Olympic Morning Preview: August 15, 2016

Stop by every morning for our rundown of each day's top events and the Olympic hopefuls to watch for.

Good morning, America. Throughout the Olympics, we'll be providing you with morning previews about the action in Rio, with a focus athletes from the U.S., Mexico and Canada. Here's what to watch for today, August 15th, 2016.

The following events will all see medals awarded today:

In gymnastics, we've got the men's rings, the men's vault and the women's balance beam. The women's balance beam looks particularly interesting. It will feature Canada's Isabela Onyshko and the U.S.'s Lauren Hernandez trying to pull an upset against Ms. Gymnastics herself, Simone Biles (pictured).

There is a ton of action in track and field today. We'll have medal rounds in the **women's hammer throw, the women's 3000 meter steeplechase *and the* men's pole vault**. At 10: 40 local time, the U.S. women Deanna Price and Amber Campbell will go for gold in the hammer throw. At 4:15 local time, the steeplechase will feature the U.S.'s Emma Coburn, Colleen Quigley, and Courtney Frerichs. Canada's Genevieve Lalonde will be there too. At 1:35 local, the U.S.'s Sam Kendricks and Canada's Shawnacy Barber will participate in the pole vault.

Men's welterweight boxing wraps up today. Preliminary flyweight events will also take place.

In the velodrome they'll be awarding medals in men's omnium cycling. Before that can happen though the men must compete a few rounds, beginning with the time trial. Mexico's Ignacio Prado and the U.S.'s Bobby Lea will take part. Lea won bronze in the 2015 World Championships.

Equestrian sees the individual dressage grand prix. Steffen Peters, Allison Brock and Laura Graves, all from the U.S., will participate. That starts at 10:00, local time.

In the nasty lagoon, the women's 10 km marathon swim is already going. The U.S.'s Haley Anderson and Canada's Stephanie Horner. As of this writing, Anderson is in 5th while Horner is in 7th.

This afternoon, the bay will host some sailing. The women's laser radial medal race begins at 1:05 pm. The men's laser medal race kicks off at 2:05. The women's race features U.S.'s Paige Railey.

At 3:30 pm local, the men's super heavyweight weightlifting kicks off. It doesn't feature any North Americans.

In wrestling, we'll have medals in the 85 kg and 130 kg weight classes. Qualification for both weight classes is already underway, with Mexico's Alfonso Antonio Leyva Yepez's 85 kg match already underway. Later, the U.S.'s Benjamin Provisor and Robbie Smith will compete in the 85 kg and 130 kg events, respectively. Smith has twice finished fifth in the World Championships Yepez has twice medaled in the Pan American Championships.
