Kansas Lost to South Dakota State in the Most Bumbling Way Possible

Kansas lost to an FCS team because they fumbled the snap before being able to stop the clock on a spike play. They may never win again.

Trailing South Dakota State 41-38 as the final seconds of the game elapsed, Kansas had a chance to at least try for a long range field goal to tie it up and force overtime, but they fumbled the snap right before spiking the ball to stop the clock. After some panic and confusion, the referees (correctly) ruled that quarterback Montell Cozart was down as he went to gather the fumbled ball before spiking it, and thus the clock did not stop. Time expired as Cozart and the rest of the offense scrambled to the line of scrimmage. After the final whistle he launched the ball into the air in frustration.

Kansas fought back to make it close after the Jackrabbits opened up a 31-14 lead in the first half, but they came up short and lost to the FCS school in one of the most frustratingly incompetent ways you could imagine. For SDSU, it is their first win against an FBS team. For Kansas, it's further proof that the program is a mess. They don't even have a full slate of scholarship players because no one wants to play football in Lawrence. This won't help. The rest of the season—where they are unlikely to ever be favored in a matchup—probably won't either.
