The London Underground Needs You

To screen your work in front of 3 million Brits per day.

“Some people might say my life is in a rut”, Paul Weller once famously sung in the Jam’s hit “Going Underground”. Well the same could be said of the London Underground’s digital display systems. While being a convenient way to convey information to the Underground’s 3 million daily users commuting to and from work without having to keep pasting up new posters, it’s mostly just a platform for repetitive adverts that bring about as much joy as a platform announcement telling you of train delays to your service. Well now all that could change. A collaborative called Smile for London have announced a contest to get a 20-second piece of your work onto the digital screens of the London Underground. If your work is one of the 50 selected by online voters, you’ll get to go to the launch event at the Museum of London where the four winning entries will be revealed. Remember there’s no audio though, so it’s all about the visuals.

Update: Smile for London, who you’ll be supporting by submitting a piece, will be overtaking the screens from the 17th January 2011. They say “Our mission is to turn the pure ad space into an opportunity for regular creative showcases and curations to make this an exciting permanent London feature.” So get creating.
