Step Into A Kitsch Animated Wonderland

Alex McLeod’s videos make for sumptuous eye feasting.

Alex McLeod‘s glistening multi-colored videos have the high gloss kitsch sheen typical of the pop art of Takashi Murakami or Jeff Koons. The difference is McLeod makes fully realized worlds populated with trees and structures, bathed in a reflective glow and pulsating as if alive with cartoonish energy. And although the worlds he creates are fantastical, they look so real you’re tempted to step inside and go for a stroll—but sadly not, because while they may look like carefully constructed models, they’re actually 3D animations built in CINEMA 4D. Which is a shame, as it would be incredible to step into a world like this and float about like you were in a scene from the Yellow Submarine or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

But, alas, well just have to make do with his videos, the latest of which is the meticulous effort Prismatic Planes HD, below, featuring spasming buildings and perspectives, and some wobbly light to help disorientate you.

And just to prove this was no fluke, check out some of this other equally impressive and beguiling work below.
