It’s Pop Panel Week here at The Creators Project and we’re revisiting the amazing head-bobbing, toe-tapping, booty-shaking tracks created live on stage during our Creators Event series. The world’s hottest producers and music luminaries took to our stage with the task of writing, recording and producing a pop hit in an hour with the help of the audience. Check out the songs and the exclusive stories behind their creation right here. You know when you see the names Mark Ronson, Sam Spiegel, Alan Palomo, and Alex Greenwald together that it’s not going to be any ordinary panel. In answer to the question if they thought pop hits had to be more manufactured than other songs, Ronson said,“Well, I’ve only had one pop hit. The way it happened was I was walking down the street with Amy Winehouse, and she was telling me this story, saying, ‘They tried to make me go to rehab, and I said, No, no, no.’ I knew I should feel sad for her, but all I could think of was that it sounded like a hook.”The idea of the panel was to get four music super producers in a room together, then see if they could create a pop hit in one hour. It started out with Sam Spiegel of N.A.S.A. altering some drums he recorded in Africa, adding a base, and then the other producers took off from there. The song really came together though when Spiegel asked if anyone from the audience could really sing. Tiffany Ortiz’s friend’s volunteered her. She recorded the soulful chorus, taking a line from the audience, “Can’t Delay the Party,” and turning it into a driving force on the track. Palomo, of Neon Indian, added some synth and Theremin, Alex Greenwald of Phantom Planet harmonized and created a melody on guitar, and Donnis rapped over Ortiz’s vocals.Check out our interview with Ortiz here:Ronson, Spiegel, and Neon Indian are all going to create their own remixes of “Can’t Delay the Party,” and we’ll be posting them exclusively on our site, so stay tuned.
