No, no, it’s not another list. It’s a mixtape, the finest in innovative, future-forward sounds assembled by your pals at Motherboard. You get one track a day from now until the end of the year, and then it all comes together into the best document of the future of music seen from the year 2011 on the internet.

.05 Wavves, “Poor Lenore”

After such an epic European meltdown in 2009, Wavves for all intents and purposes should have been dead. It’s tough to rebound after your lead singer has a pill-induced freakout that causes your drummer to quit the band. But after a few new drummers, Nathan Williams reaching for more beer and a new LP in 2010, it’s Wavves’ 2011 EP Life Sux that’s got me convinced Southern California’s representative chillwave/chillgaze Tecate-rock band is back. I normally hate songs that repeat the same phrase over and over, but something about “Poor Lenore” — especially in the dead of winter — has me yearning for summers past spent at the beach, drinking beer and lighting things on fire.
