Frantic Sequence Ends With Sunderland Own Goal

Crystal Palace equalized on a frantic scene in front of the goal, ending in a backheel attempt redirected by a Sunderland player on his own goal.

Wes Brown netted an own goal, Sunderland's fourth in 16 days, to give Crystal Palace the equalizer today at Selhurst Park. Marouane Chamakh had a point-blank header that he put right into Sunderland keeper Costel Pantilimon's gut and Pantilimon kept it out of the net, albeit temporarily.

Pantilimon could not control the ball so, after it rolled free, Fraizer Campbell tried to backheel it back into the cluster in front. Wes Brown was unlucky enough to be in the line of fire and his clearing attempt went right on net, glancing off the post and in to put Palace on the board.

The agony, my goodness.

Brown likely breathed a sigh of relief, though, when Sunderland got the lead back with a Jordi Gomez goal in the 79th minute to put Sunderland back on top, 2-1.
