The transfer madness in European soccer is finally over. Aside from the De Gea debacle, which prevented the United keeper from joining Real Madrid because Madrid apparently wasn't able to enter his transfer information into FIFA's network in time (Madrid alleges United intentionally delayed matters), Anthony Martial's transfer to United was the weirdest transaction of the market. Martial is obviously a real talent, but he's 19 and Manchester United paid 36 million pounds to bring the Frenchman in from Monaco. The transfer has apparently scandalized France. Tottenham reportedly bid for him earlier this offseason and balked when Monaco demanded 20 million pounds.

Manchester United unveiled its new official watch. The timing, and the irony, hasn't been ignored on the Spanish people (link in Spanish).

The Premier League spent a record 870 million pounds on transfers, which is 4% more than last year.

Many of Germany's soccer teams are going out of their way to welcome refugees. Germany as a country has accepted a large number of refugees from Syria and Africa over the last couple years, and how to integrate them into German society is a major topic of conversation. VICE Sports Germany reached out to every Bundesliga team to ask them how they're helping refugees (Link in German). Photos of ultras wishing support to the incoming refugees have flooded social media.

Andy Murray beat Nick Kyrgios in their much-anticipated U.S. Open matchup, 7-5 6-3 4-6 6-1. Kyrgios ranted and raved and complained to the umpire about this and that, but he didn't reach into his bag of middle school insults.

Durban, South Africa, is set to host the Commonwealth Games in 2022. It will be the first African city to do so.

The U.S. Olympic Committee has officially selected Los Angeles for its bid to host the 2024 Olympics.
