Justin Smoak Hits Walk-Off Homer after Forcing Extras with 9th-Inning Blast

Justin Smoak picked a good time to hit his first homer of the season. He picked an even better time for his second.

The Blue Jays first baseman hit a game-tying bomb in the ninth inning to force extras before smashing a walk-off blast in the 10th to power the Blue Jays to a 3-1 win over the Rangers on Tuesday.

Smoak’s extra-inning heroics occurred at nearly the exact same time another Toronto athlete was sending the home crowd into a frenzy just down the street. Raptors guard Kyle Lowry hit a game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime in Toronto’s Game 1 matchup against the Heat moments after Smoak went yard. But Raptors fans didn’t exit the Air Canada Centre with the same joy as Blue Jays fans left Rogers Centre with, as the Raps dropped Game 1 to the Heat by six points.

Smoak’s game-winning home run capped a three-hit game and was his second multi-hit effort in as many nights.
