Borghesia: Slovenia's Original Techno Outlaws

Fetish kinks and occult imagery sewed together with nationalistic overtones and war-related news clips.

Every week, Time Travel conjures the ghosts of techno-futures past with selections from the dustiest corners of the WWW.

Borghesia - "Discipline"
Borghesia were one of the major players on the Slovenian alternative scene in the 1980s. Occupying a space somewhere between techno-punks and fine art outlaws, these Tarot-reading multimedia wizards staged live performances that included stacks of slide and film projectors, video recorders and television sets. Video and audio equipment mingled onstage at the band's dizzying live shows, combining technotopian performance art and live electronic music. This video perfectly captures the band's aesthetic, which brought fetish kinks and occult imagery together with nationalistic overtones and war-related news clips. Political unrest had been raging in the region for a decade and this video was released in 1989, just 2 years before the Yugoslavian Republic descended into all-out war.
