Arsenal became the first club to receive £100m in Premier League payments last season, according to official figures released on Tuesday.

Arsène Wenger's side featured 27 times on live television over the course of the 2015/16 campaign, more than any other team. Their nearest rivals were Manchester United on 26 live television appearances, and Manchester City on 25.

Though they lost out on the title to Leicester City, the Gunners made 12 more television appearances than the champions and received around £7m more in Premier League payments overall. Arsenal's earnings came to a total of £100.9m, including £21.5m in "facility fees", a £23.6m reward for finishing second and a combined £55.8m from domestic and overseas TV rights, as well as central commercial deals.

The breaking of the £100m barrier for Premier League income represents another milestone for big money in the beautiful game, but could pale into comparison with next season's earnings. A new TV deal worth a record £5.1bn is set to start at the beginning of the 2016/17 campaign, representing a 70% increase in revenues from UK broadcasting rights.
