Tweet Holiday Greetings To Lady Gaga's Celestial Sphere

Barneys department store in NYC is hosting Constellation Gaga, an interactive Twitter installation.

This may come as a shock to you, but, the holidays are coming, which means luxury shops will try to entice you off the streets and into their lairs to part with your money, even though no one has any. But just because we’re all poor doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy some elaborate shop window displays—perhaps on your way to occupy somewhere—and nobody does elaborate like Lady Gaga.

This festive season she’s gone all Santa and opened up Gaga's Workshop at Barneys department store in New York City. And as part of this Gaga-fest they’ve turned over their window displays to her too and one of them has become an interactive social media installation called Constellation Gaga. The piece features a video wall displaying a live Twitter stream that lets visitors tweet holiday messages, good or ill, so they can be streamed on a Prysm laser phosphor display (LPD)—effectively a big crystal laser display panel—and read by the public, as well as hosted on a website too. The display itself will look a bit like the below:

The Science Project—who helped work on Radical Friend’s The Digital Flesh, which toured our events last year—was part of the collaboration and their Creative Director, Dave Skaff, says: "The social interactive component of the window enables visitors to Tweet messages into an LED strip screen in the Constellation Gaga window, in essence displaying their “message in a bottle” so they can have their picture taken with it and share it online."

And as if that wasn’t enough Gaga with your gift shopping, another Barneys’ window will be laser-projecting a 14-foot high x 6.5-foot long new Gaga music video on a curved panel, just to remind us all what the festive season is all about: Lady Gaga!
