Creators Remix Roundup Week 20

The fruits of the Neon Indian + Flaming Lips collaboration, Boys Noize, and…Travis Barker?

Our Creators are a very talented and prolific bunch, and our inbox is always cluttered with alerts of new remixes and mashups from the incredible DJs and producers in our line-up. We just couldn't keep these fresh new tunes to ourselves because, after all, filesharing is caring. Here are our top picks from the past week.

Travis Barker: "Can A Drummer Get Some" (Diplo Remix)

Honestly, Travis Barker kind of fell off our radar after we stopped listening to the radio a couple years ago, but this Diplo reworked track is a welcome re-entry to our scope. Barker brings in Lil Wayne, Swizz Beatz, Game, and Rick Ross on vocals and Diplo veers away from the whomp-heavy remixes we’ve been hearing lately, employing different effects like a chirping cicada sound over the refrain, which sounds weird but is totally working for us. “Can A Drummer Get Some” comes off Barker’s debut solo album Give the Drummer Some (we’re sensing a theme here). Download the remix for free on Diplo’s Facebook page.

The Flaming Lips and Neon Indian: "Is David Bowie Dying"

Last week we announced that the fruits of the much-hyped Wayne Coyne and Neon Indian collaboration had finally been released… well, in two record stores in Texas. “Is David Bowie Dying” has finally made its way to the internet, though we hope Bowie’s eventual demise is a lot more glamourous than within the depths of a Texas wasteland. Alan Palomo’s spacey vocals combined with the static, epic feel of the Flaming Lips makes this outcome fit to narrate the journeys of nomadic tribes living within a Dali painting (that’s a good thing).

Boys Noize: “Kontact Me” (Siriusmo remix)

Berlin-based artist Siriusmo aka Moritz Friedrich has released a handful of EPs over the years, heavily collaborating with and remixing fellow Berlin-based electronic group Modeselektor’s work. Siriusmo famously said he would never DJ or perform live (though he finally gave in and performed his first live radio mix in 2010), which is why we think it’s cool that he teams up with notorious DJ Boys Noize on this version of “Kontact Me”. Since Diplo toned it down this week, this is your dubstep fix.
