Refraction And Pyramid Crystals Make For Kaleidoscopic Installation

Prismatica uses an LCD screen and an animation to create a hypnotic art work.

Prismatica is an installation that uses the principle of refraction and mapping to produce an intricate pattern displayed on pyramid-shaped crystals. The artist, Kit Webster, attached crystals to an LCD screen, illuminating them with a geometric animation program and mapping them onto the spiky landscape of the prisms, which refract the animations into stunning kaleidoscopic forms. According to the artist:

The animations are refracted through the geometry of the crystals in concordance with the perspective of the viewer, which alters the way the illuminations appear and interact with the reflections of the surrounding lights within the space.

As the observer moves around the piece, their perception of it changes, alternating depending on their position, adding a further visual dimension to the piece. It looks amazing with its crystalline structure, like something you might find hanging on the wall of Superman’s Fortress of Solitude.
