Some ears (like mine) are just too damn big for earbuds. Other ears are so tiny they get swallowed up by over-the-ear headphones, resulting in a chamber-style reverb unintended by both designers and wearers alike. Some people need rugged 'phones for DJ gigs, while others prefer hi-fi studio delicacies. Now, from designers AIAIAI—who co-created the Booty Drum, so you know it's good—you can build modular headphones, customized to your own audiophilic preferences.

TMA-2 Modular expands on Kilo Design's TMA-1 headphones, allowing you to build your perfect pair from a selection of four speaker units, three headbands, five different types of earpads, and six cable arrangements. Simply put—if you previously weren't sure about your next headphone purchase, you now have 360 new possibilities to choose from. “I think this is a new way of thinking about headphones," explains Kilo Founder and AIAIAI Designer, Lars Larsen. "First of all, the design has evolved but the evolution is a natural extension rather than a sudden, abrupt transformation. We’ve designed relatively subtle, new details, plugs and connections for modular flexibility, but it’s the overall idea of modularity that I think will capture everyone’s imagination; the major design change lies in the Modular solution and the freedom of choice it produces."

If you're easily overwhelmed by options, AIAIAI also offer four preset combinations, including one designed by prolific producer Young Guru. The headphones just launched this week, so get ready for a bit of an extended wait time on the customization site. Otherwise, head over to AIAIAI.dk to start building.
