San Francisco—2017: major changes are taking place in the technotropolis-by-the-bay. With a burgeoning populationexceeding 40,000,000, the city bustles with transplants and tech startups, and everybody's asking for directions. New buildings, new businesses, and absolutely no parking; it's a future that sounds like, well, the futures of many other cities, only this time, it's been 3D-printed.Commissioned by real estate company Tishman Speyer, 3D design-software producers, Autodesk, and creative agency, Steelblue, have teamed up to create one of the largest 3D-printed sculptures ever made: a workable 1:1250 scale resin model of the Golden City. It took six years to design, and two months to print, and already, it's become the premier model for architectural renderings of cityscapes the world over. There are even several construction projects that are yet to be made in the model, including the forthcoming Transbay Transit Center.

Below, check out Steelblue's awesome behind-the-scenes featurette, as well as images of the manufactured metropolis during it's pre-production phases. It isn't all of San Francisco (the model only encompasses 115 city blocks), but pretty soon it wouldn't be surprise us if all city development plans were outlined via 3D-printer:
