Montreal-based design collective Daily Tous Les Jours built a public art installation that could feasibly turn playgrounds into a multisensory arenas filled with light and sound—or at least encourage some next-level iteration of music chairs.21 Balançoires (21 Swings), previously exhibited at Quartier des spectacles, is a interactive piece made of 21 swings equipped with illuminated light panels. When visitors swing, each seat emits a different note, creating melodies when multiple people kick and pump simultaneously. The collective has now brought the musical swings to Green Box Arts Festival in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado under the name The Swings.

The creators elaborate a little more on their website:The Swings allow participants to make music with their entire bodies, to connect to one another and to have a sense of ownership of public space due to the music they create. The result is a giant collective instrument that brings together people of all ages and backgrounds. The Swings have attracted "millions of fans" in Montreal, with each of the 21 seats being swung an average of 8,500 times. We can only imagine the spirited cacophony of children laughing and screaming along with the notes coming out of the installation. Someone should pair Daily Tous Les Jours with James Murphy. Maybe together, they could bring his musical subway idea to illuminated life.
