Watch out World, Alison Wonderland Just Signed to Astralwerks

The feisty Australian makes dance-pop about drinking Grey Goose in the club, and she's awesome.

If you don't know who Alison Wonderland is yet, you will soon. The multi-talented producer, DJ and vocalist just signed to Astralwerks Records—home to Porter Robinson, Eric Prydz, Matt Zo, and many more. Wonderland is already a local star in her home country of Australia, where she sold out a series of warehouse parties called the "Wonderland Warehouse Project" in Melbourne, Perth, Brisdane, Sydney, and the Gold Cost. In fact, Papa Diplo recently dubbed her "one of the best DJs from Australia."

There's no doubt that Wonderland's popularity comes from her soaring, stadium-sized dance-pop, which usually feature her own vocals. Her trap-inflected "I Want U," produced by Djemba Djemba, hit the number one spot on Hype Machine. That track, along with her latest "Cold," (opening line: "Now it's just me and this Grey Goose.") will be included on Wonderland's debut EP Calm Down, out on November 11.

Although when people say they've got a "classic music background," they actually mean, "Well, my dad taught me how to play 'Chopsticks' on the piano one time," Wonderland has some serious musical chops. She was the former principal cellist in the Sydney Youth Orchestra, and likes opening her sets with songs by classical musicians. ("It was a proud moment. I actually got the crowd to waltz," she said in an interview.) Wonderland also played bass in an indie rock band before she decided to teach herself production and DJing.

We don't need a crystal ball to know that big things are coming from this one.
